You may have heard of Being John Malkovich, but never gotten around to seeing it. You might have heard that it stars John Cusack, or was directed by Spike Jonze. More likely, you heard about it because of how weird a film it is. Well, everything you likely heard about this movie is true. It is crazy odd, and because of it, it is awesome.
The man of the hour is screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, whose wacky and irreverent script is so oddball and unique that it can’t possibly help but be entertaining. Seriously, you have never encountered a script like this (unless, of course, you’re familiar with Charlie Kaufman’s other screenplays, and even then you might need some assistance). Here, he crafts probably the weirdest love story in all of cinema; it’s really hard to describe. Regardless, the film is such a bizarro piece of artistry that it becomes required viewing for the unique experience alone.
This film is awesome fun to be had, and believe me, you should have it. Make the time to see this one, or make sure you don’t pass up the chance to if it ever comes along. While there may be directors other than Jonze, and writers other than Kaufman, the two are truly unique among the crowd, and combined together, make for one heady amusement park ride.
